As a native of the Northern
Neck, I grew
up in rural Northumberland County. Summers were spent combing the
shores of the Rappahanock River, Potomac River, and Chesapeake Bay in
search of sea shells, Indian artifacts and shark teeth. I also enjoyed
swimming, floating on rafts in the Bay, and fishing and crabbing. A
whole afternoon could be occupied by crabbing off a dock with a chicken
neck tied to a crabbing line. A crab net was used to scoop up the crabs
that came to feast on the chicken. In addition to the leisurely
swimming and fishing, I also worked out in the farm fields picking
tomatoes, watermelons, and other fresh produce that was trucked into
the city for sale at the farmer's markets. There were many afternoons I
would come out of the fields, green and itchy from the tomato vines,
but feeling satisfied with the days work. You could usually find me on
my horse, Pepper, late in the afternoon riding along the highway on Rt.
360 from Lottsburg to Callao. Most afternoons Pepper and I would ride
to the Callao Supermarket for candy and ice cream. Of course, Pepper
always got a treat too!
Times have changed since then, but the Northern Neck has retained its
charming rural character. Fishing, crabbing, swimming and boating are
still a source of enjoyment and relaxation. Many people make their
living here in the fishing, crabbing or oyster industry or by farming
and raising livestock. This is still a wonderful place for a slower
paced life enhanced by moderate weather conditions, gorgeous farms and
open spaces, and many creeks, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay.
My husband and I reside in the quaint and historic town of Reedville.
We have a large extended family and enjoy spending time with our family
and grandchildren. I decided to go into real estate after retiring from
my career as a Registered Nurse. I have worked in many facets of the
health care field including home health care, Charge Nurse and Nursing
Supervisor of a long term skilled care facility, Substance Abuse
nursing, and as a Psychiatric Nurse. Nursing was a wonderful field for
me as I met so many diverse people. One reason I enjoy real estate is
that I have met many people and most of them are neighbors and friends
now. I take pride and joy in helping others discover the Northern Neck
while finding the perfect weekend get-away, second home, or permanent
place of residence. I am able to provide a historical perspective and
insider's knowledge that assists my clients in finding a home in an
area that suits their needs.
I enjoy gardening, reading, animals, and horseback riding in my leisure
time.
